Semi-detached house

Voksen, Oslo, Norway

A semi-detached house depicting as a detached house. The house is set in the hillsides of Oslo, with a strict zoning following specific conditions for roof shapes, use of materials, sizing of windows and volumetrics etc. This in combination with the client’s strong wish for a contemporary house, lead the design phase into an exercise of rule bending.

We did set a rule for ourselves – whenever you were inside your own “unit” you should not see the neighbour’s part of the house. This in combination with the more traditional design parameters such as sun and shadow, vistas, terrain formation has led to two highly differentiated units, with different qualities with specific responses in opposition to a traditional mirrored layout.

Eight years down the line form completion we were approached by AUDI ag, asking if our project could act as an architectonic backdrop for their world wide launch of the Audi E-tron. To us this was an acknowledgement of our doings, but at the same time emphasising our statement – that architecture is also about branding and identity. And probably why Amazon use the same images campaigning recharging is easy.. Home is made for recharging

As they say
